The Artspace app's new View My Room feature

The art app that lets you try before you buy

Artspace’s new app lets you find shows and browse works - but there’s one other function we’re really taken with. . .

You only have to walk around a few art fairs or commercial shows to hear couples discussing in hushed voices, how this or that work might look once hung on a wall at home (or, if you're looking at something a little pricier, in the yacht).

Now, a new app from our sister site, Artspace, takes at least some of the indecision out of the collecting process. Artspace’s new app, launched today, allows users to fit their schedule around art fairs, save works to a personal gallery, and, of course, keep up with all the site’s great editorial coverage.

However, the app, for iPhone and iPad, also includes a new View My Room feature. This lets users select a work and see how it would look on their wall. All you need to do is pick the piece from Artspace’s offerings, point the phone at an appropriate space, set your approximate distance from the wall, and then ‘hang’ the work. The app superimposes the piece, in this case Alex Ebstein’s 2015 work, Tiered Arrangement, onto the chosen spot.

Alas, the Mies Barcelona chair is not included, but then you can’t have everything can you? Download the app here, and for greater help in starting to assemble your collection, get a copy of Collecting Art for Love, Money and More.
