The Artist Project book at our Met Store event

The Artist Project goes back to the Met

The book that gets contemporary artists to talk about classic works returned to the source for our launch

Whether you love ancient sculpture or contemporary street art, The Artist Project is a thought-provoking, insightful book. It brings together 120 of the world's most influential contemporary artists to discuss the art within New York’s Metropolitan Museum’s collection that inspires them.

The series actually began in 2015 as an online project, created by the Met Museum, so it’s nice to see the book return to the spot where it all started. Last Friday the Metropolitan Museum hosted an event for The Artist Project inside the Museum Store.

A well-heeled crowd enjoyed a lively conversation moderated by Christopher Noey, series director of The Artist Project at the Metropolitan Museum. Featured artists, Walton Ford and Nina Katchadourian spoke about their choices, influences and works, and also signed copies of the book.

We’d like to thank the Met, as well as Walton and Nina for their support. To see the works they picked, as well as selections from Jeff Koons, Kerry James Marshall, Raymond Pettibon, Edmund de Waal and John Currin, by buying a copy of The Artist Project here.
