One of Parm's sandwiches

Rich Torrisi’s Parm is a hit at Yankee Stadium

As the New York baseball ground opens for a new season, one food outlet has already won plaudits

For a long time good food and sports stadiums seemed mutually exclusive, as anyone who has ever had to endure the pies on offer at British football grounds back in the day knows. Yet, when New York's Yankee Stadium opened this week, Eater.com sized up the dining options on offer, and found particular cause to praise the Stadium’s Parm concession.

This casual Italian-American restaurant and sandwich shop is the work of Major Food Group, the remarkably successful restaurant business founded by chefs Rich Torrisi and Mario Carbone and banker-turned-food-blogger Jeff Zalaznick. First opening on Mulberry Street in Manhattan back in 2011, Parm has won praise from The New York Times, Time Out and Phaidon’s own Nicholas Lander, writing in The Financial Times.

Most reviewers focussed on the Parm on Mulberry St, or its second incarnation on 235 Columbus Avenue on the Upper West Side, yet Eater says the heroes and platters on offer in the stadium (right field, lower level) are just as good as those served in Manhattan, and suggests sports fans pay particular attention to the outlet’s famous chicken parm and the Italian hero. Something to bear in mind if you’re going to a ball game there this season.
