Massimo Bottura and co. at Osteria Francescana on New Year's Eve

How Massimo Bottura saw in 2018

The Italian chef may have worked his way into the New Year, but that was no excuse not to party

Massimo Bottura has plenty of reasons to give thanks. In 2017 the chef took his Food for Soul initiative to London and Modena; hung out with Barack Obama; helped Aziz Ansari shoot the second series of Master of None; and, of course, published Bread is Gold, his hit new book that tackles food waste and helps feed the hungry.

2018 looks equally rosy, with new haute cuisine soup kitchens planned for New York and Paris among other cities. Perhaps that is why, despite working on New Year’s Eve at his Michelin-starred restaurant Osteria Francescana in Modena, Bottura and his brigade managed to see in the New Year in style.

The chef posted this Instagram clip yesterday, and, despite being on the night shift, he and his colleagues couldn’t look happier. Watch out for sous chef Taka, a ceramic Green Egg barbecue, and lots of frivolity. Meanwhile, for more on the chef’s extraordinary food made from ordinary ingredients, order a copy of Bread is Gold here.
