Neneh Cherry by Wolfgang Tillmans

Wolfgang Tillmans just shot Neneh Cherry

The fine-art photographer created the cover for Neneh Cherry's hard-hitting new migrant crisis single, Kong

We might know Wolfgang Tillmans for his recent museum exhibitions, travelling retrospectives, gallery shows with David Zwirner, and campaigning political work. Yet Tillmans began working in the European club and music scene, documenting the more creative side of urban nightlife in Berlin, London, back in the 1980s and 90s.

In this way, he moved alongside anyone and everyone from Isa Genzken to the Pet Shop Boys, among other notable figures. So, it shouldn't surprise us to see that, in 2018, Tillmans is working with another veteran of the 1980s club scene, Neneh Cherry.

Cherry

Wolfgang has shot the cover for Cherry's new single, Kong. Co-produced by Kieran Hebden of Four Tet and Massive Attacks's 3D, this new composition tackles the European immigration crisis. No prizes for guessing on which side Wolfgang and Neneh come down on in this debate, though the image and the accompanying song are excellent examples of how the pair continue to push the limit in their respective métiers today.
